Choose Ottawa County

Mission

Promote economic growth and prosperity throughout Ottawa County.

Profile

Choose Ottawa County was founded in 2021 following the dissolution of the local Chamber of Commerce and the loss of the county’s economic development director position. Recognizing that economic and community development remained vital to Ottawa County’s future, a dedicated group of community members came together to fill that gap. They established a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, creating a vehicle to attract grant funding and support initiatives that strengthen the county. Over the next two years, the organization worked to secure nonprofit status and develop a clear vision for its future. Today, a 10-member board representing Tescott, Bennington, Delphos, and Minneapolis guides the organization’s efforts, focused on retaining and growing jobs, improving housing opportunities, and enhancing quality of life throughout Ottawa County. In 2023, Choose Ottawa County hired Katie Vanderhoff as its Community Development Coordinator. Since then, the organization has secured more than $1.6 million in grant funding and has led a variety of initiatives, including shop-local campaigns, marketing efforts to attract visitors and new residents, and the development of resources that support local businesses, organizations, and residents.
